Can AI help humans coordinate?
One thing that really bothers me is that when a group of people think about something, the quality of this thinking often decreases as the size of the group increases.
I am hopeful that AI *may* be able to help for a couple reasons:
- AI can be seen as a neutral third party, which allows for AI decisions to be Schelling Points between groups that are otherwise locked in a win/lose power dynamic.
- AI is capable of holding far more state than a human, so it should be able to navigate greater complexity.
To that end, I have built my first attempt at exploring these possibilities through email addresses that respond via AI models. I chose email because it's a familiar interface that allows multiple people to engage in a single conversation.
To use, simply CC one of the following email addresses and it will respond to your thread:
- mediator@sopho.ai: acts as a mediator to guide the participants toward understanding one another's perspectives and finding common ground.
- facilitator@sopho.ai: helps groups of people makes plans together by gathering their individual preferences and proposing win/win approaches.
- deepen@sopho.ai: adds nuance and other perspectives to deepen a conversation.
- judge@sopho.ai: evaluates each person's argument on factual accuracy, strength of reasoning and clarity.
- aita@sopho.ai: responds in a humorous, light-hearted way and makes judgments like Reddit's AmITheAsshole community. I like this one for minor beefs with friends. My personal favorite :)
- support@sopho.ai: tries to be helpful and will explain the usage of these email addresses.
Please reach out if you have any comments.
